Watching thousands of migrating western sandpipers fly over the mudflats of Roberts Bank on the Fraser River estuary in British Columbia is one of the most enchanting spectacles of the natural world. Sadly, this may all come to an end if we do not protect the birds’ habitat, the last intact estuarine habitat in western Canada now threatened by the Port of Vancouver’s Roberts Bank Terminal 2 expansion project.
We are making a documentary to raise awareness and mobilize efforts to stop this project and permanently protect a vital mudflat ecosystem many species depend on for their survival, including migrating shorebirds — one of the fastest disappearing groups of birds in the world — but also endangered southern resident killer whales and salmon.
